Chelsey & Curtis's Story...
Our story has a lot to do with timing – being in the right place in life at the right time, and of course, with the right person. Curtis and I met seven years ago through a mutual friend, actually his best friend, who I was dating at the time. This could seem like bad timing to meet my future husband, right? And shortly after meeting him, I moved to Australia to travel and go to school. Add a few oceans and continents into the mix and our story becomes even more unlikely.
But after nearly two years, I moved back to Canada. Months later, I was catching up with some old friends and ran into Curt again. It was one of those timing things again - up to this point neither of us had been single when we saw each other - but this time we both were. We didn't know it then, but this time it would seem as though we were both in the right place, at the right time.
I was traveling through Thailand in December 2007 when Curtis asked my dad if he could have his blessing to propose – which came as a shock to me, because he didn't pop the question until June of 2008! Needless to say, my dad was relieved he didn't have to keep the secret anymore because I had no Idea he was going to propose! We opted for a longer engagement – a 14 month wait that takes us to August 29th, 2009.
We were camping at Kalamalka Lake in B.C last June, hot as ever, and he asked me if I wanted to go fishing (he had never really fished before and he knew I loved it so I said ok, despite the heat). We were tired, dirty and sweaty by the time we finally 4x4'd to the top of the peak overlooking our beautiful fishing spot. Forty-five minutes later in and no fish biting in our tin-boat rental, he asked me to close my eyes. The day wasn't turning out at all how I thought it would – especially when he got down on one knee, rocking the boat hard enough to make me open my eyes. There he was, asking me to spend the rest of my life with him. I could never have dreamed of anything more romantic than that. Perfect, even if a little sweaty.
By now we've been together just over two years, and I'm in school taking courses at Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy (CCMH), to be able to transfer my massage therapy certification from Australia. Curtis is an electrician by trade and was recently accepted and brought on board with the Calgary Fire Department – a lifelong dream of his. This means our income has definitely taken a hit because of it and me being in school, but the change is more than worth it in order for him to pursue what he loves. We are very excited to spend the rest of our lives together and we would love to have your votes to help us win this dream destination wedding!!
